On 2nd March, a very special event occurred in Melbourne that brought architects and designers together to celebrate the launch of a new acoustic collection from Autex Acoustics®. The recently established Plus Workspace showroom was the venue for the launch of this beautiful new collection from Autex Acoustics in collaboration with Willie Weston. The stellar event, with delicious food from Mabu Mabu, proved to be memorable on every level.
The new range features Willie Weston’s First Nations designs and stunning colourways. Since 2015, Willie Weston has been working in partnership with First Nations artists through First Nations-owned art centres to develop fabrics, wallpapers and other interiors products for commercial and residential use. This collaboration with Autex Acoustics ensures that these sensational designs are now more widely available for project specification.
As the capacity crowd enjoyed mingling and meeting, the official proceedings began with host Jan Henderson from Indesign Media Asia Pacific introducing Kirk Schmidt, general manager at Autex Acoustics, who welcomed the impressive crowd. Then co-founder of Willie Weston, Jessica Booth, shared her experiences partnering with First Nations artists in her business and the collaboration with Autex Acoustics.
Next, principal, Socrati Seretis, and senior design architect, Peddle Thorpe, talked about his experience in designing with Traditional Owners on the Surf Coast Aquatic and Health Centre project in Torquay, and finally, the inimitable Simone Laity, head of innovation partnerships at Lendlease, spoke about developing public spaces with integrated First Nations art for developers. This diverse mix of perspectives proved to be a wonderful backdrop to the new collection, installations and furnishings on the floor and also provided real life inspirational story-telling from practitioners.
As an entirely carbon-neutral company, Autex Acoustics’ new range is, of course, carbon-neutral. The collection has been thoughtfully curated and respectfully translated from print to panel, which is testament to the high-quality print facilities that Autex Acoustics has invested in to make the collection and bespoke prints possible.
Not only was this event a wonderful time to meet old friends and make new ones, the collections of panels featuring the Willie Weston designs and furniture from Plus Workspace made the occasion a truly memorable one.
