The project
With Autex’s 50+ year presence in Australia and 35 years of local manufacturing, the new Autex Acoustics® Australia Headquarters stands as a built expression of this deep-rooted legacy and commitment.
It brings together the corporate office, showroom, materials library, and manufacturing facility into a single, highly considered environment. Of course, it is entirely designed with acoustics in mind from conception. Designed as both a functional office and a living demonstration of Autex Acoustics’ capabilities, the 1,600m² space reflects how sound, materiality, and design can work together to support focus, collaboration, and wellbeing.
As a business that designs and manufactures acoustic solutions for the built environment, the new headquarters was an opportunity to create a space that genuinely performs—acoustically, aesthetically, and sustainably—while remaining adaptable for future growth.

The solution

Made For led a collaborative discovery process with the Autex Acoustics leadership team to understand how the business works, what it values, and how the space would be used day‑to‑day. From there, an architectural framework was developed, allowing acoustic panelling to become moments of colour, texture, and visual interest throughout the workplace. The approach from them and Wildflower was about clarity: clean lines, architectural forms, and a sustainable mindset.
Particular attention was given to treating potential acoustic challenges early in the process, allowing performance requirements to be resolved seamlessly within the architecture. This planning also allowed the versatile product to be integrated in various forms throughout the building: acoustic linings, desk screens, and of course, wall and ceiling tiles in both classic and sculptural formations. Beyond the design and function, another advantage of considering acoustics from the start was the ability to minimise waste. By manufacturing sheets to the finished wall and ceiling elevation requirements, the amount of wasted material and offcuts during installation were significantly reduced.
A defining feature of the project is the reception materials table, which showcases Autex Acoustics’ recycled offcuts from the manufacturing process in an engaging and educational method. By presenting raw materials alongside finished applications in this area, the reception tells the story of process, circularity, and design innovation from the moment visitors enter the space.
A wide range of Autex Acoustics products were integrated throughout the office, selected and specified in collaboration with Made For to support both performance and visual cohesion, and showcase the products’ creative and unusual applications. The predominantly neutral palette allows these acoustic elements to act as features in the space—and allows flexibility to update colours or products over time without disrupting the overall design.
Sustainability was embedded at every stage. From a design perspective, materials and products were specified to align with Autex Acoustics’ values around circularity and recycled content, low carbon impact, local manufacturing, and long product lifespans. From a manufacturing and construction standpoint, acoustic panels were produced to finished dimensions to reduce site waste, with offcuts recycled through Autex Acoustics’ in‑house processes to support circular product life cycles.
The result

The completed headquarters delivers a calm, spacious, visually striking, and highly functional workplace that demonstrates the impact of considered acoustic design. The vast expanse of space allows for current needs while providing capacity for future growth, with the layout already accommodating additional workspaces as required.
Staff experience a workplace that supports focus, collaboration, and wellbeing—where space, sound, and materiality work together in a beautiful manner. Visitors are welcomed into an environment that immediately communicates acoustic calmness, material innovation, sustainable thinking, and a genuine focus on employee wellbeing.
The result is a workplace that feels both elaborate and straightforward—a space that reflects where Autex Acoustics has come from and where it’s heading, while setting a benchmark for acoustic performance in the modern workplace.
